[ a shake of his head as he takes a nice long drag of his pipe. tonight it smells like jasmine and sea-salt, and emily looks rather cute in a blue dress that makes her more youthful than usual. such a fated night indeed. ]

[ please! he'd love to hear it, as he'd only heard snippets from the sages his world had summoned from japan. in any case, he makes some room for emily on his broomstick, readjusting his seating position so that he's riding it like a bike and extending a hand towards her to help her get on. ]
[taking his hand, she seats herself next to him, feeling a bit giddy at the idea of riding a broom like a fairytale witch. the scent of his pipe is pleasing, soothing, and she has the distinct thought she's being spirited away.
Hibiki only laughs, and closes their eyes to sleep.]

I don't mind. There is a reason why children's stories persisted through time. Even we could learn a thing or two from rereading them.

he then takes emily's hands that were holding on to him and places them on his broomstick, so that he can get up on his feet and turn around to face her. see? impeccable balance. ]
[at the least, she could stop him from dashing his head into the pavement. but his standing up shows her that he has no fear - and she needs to try to match it to a degree. even if logic dictates one shouldn't be hovering on brooms in the moonlight in hell, even if it is with a friend.
her wings shift and balance her as she gets up to join him, keeping her feet on the broomstick. they'll make up for what she lacks - birds are made to perch in their own way, after all.

[ speaking of hands, he takes hers in his, steady and graceful as he takes position. a tango in the skies is practically a staple for most western wizards, thrillseekers as they are, and the fact that emily's become daring enough to do this with him...

and with that, he takes a step forward, then another one. careful, careful, watch your step. but with how shylock is holding her like the dearest partner that she is, she definitely won't fall from here.
[if she doesn't think too hard about it, then it's simpler. if she trusts him that she won't fall, that his hands and her wings will keep her safe, then it's easy. hardly the most dangerous thing she's done in her life. it's readable in her body language and tension when she relaxes, when the nerves give way to enjoyment, and it's just...fun. something that makes it so she can't help but smile. even without music, she can hear it in her head - a rhythm she just has to follow.
maybe she was wrong to associate him with fairy tales. a fairy doesn't create moments like this. he is what he is, what he has to be - only a wizard could create something like this. like a dream, except a good one.
it's enough to make her laugh a little, honest and fond.]
