[ She promised she'd show up first chance she got, and well... that took a bit longer than expected, given the immediate fallout of the crisis she had to deal with (and her promotion) but she does eventually show up at the door to Emily's clinic, knocking on a nearby table so she didn't just sneak up on her.
Dressed fully in suit and tie, her badge shined up, like she'd just been in a meeting, but she has a bottle of plum wine in one hand and a few flowers in the other. ]
Not busy right now, are you?
[ She had no idea of Emily still had people she was seeing to, or if they all got transferred to the main hospital now that it was open again, or what... ]
[really, she's more working to cope with the news she just got, venting more of her frustration into paperwork, into shuffling around more of this place's connections to make it feasible. in the event of her "disappearance," the management should go to someone...Aerith might be able to temporarily handle things and find a new head doctor. it's enough to crease worry lines into her forehead, but the knock pulls her out of her daze, trying to fix her expression -
well, goodness, that's not who she expected to see, but the sight's surprising enough to get her to smile again.]
You look quite sharp. Some grand occasion that I'm forgetting?
[not that she doesn't know. but she can play dumb.]
A profound... and desperate need to blow off some steam. And spend sometime in the company of someone who makes me happy.
[ Musashi approached, setting the sake bottle on Emily's desk, the flowers still in her hand as she leaned in to help herself to a kiss of the doctor's temple, humming as she did so. ]
Just got out of the most stressful meeting of my whole life.
Then I'll do you the mercy of not asking after it, and reminding you instead that you survived it.
[she turns her head to sign off on one of the last documents, moving it to the completed pile. seems like no one was happy with that meeting's outcome.]
I have a bit more work to do, but if you can be a little patient, then I can give you my full attention. I promise no one should come with anything else stressful in the meantime.
As long as it means that more people stay healthy and intact, I'm all for it.
[she's never once gone back on that statement as a doctor. the less she saw of people in a professional format, the better, because it meant they were well. she fills out the next two pages of her work automatically - just standard intake, but it's always worth looking at the physical copy before handing it off to be placed in the system.]
And don't think that doesn't include you. If there's to be peace, I only want you walking through my doors by choice.
Hey now, wasn't I good about avoiding injury during that whole ordeal? Didn't get hurt once.
[ Not for a lack of peril, of course, but she always kept Emily in mind when trying to curtail some of her more reckless habits. That, and she was pretty sure the doctor could do nothing for the worst of it... How does one treat, after all, slipping in and out of one's very existence?
She figured the less she said about that experience, the better. ]
Tried to keep as many people in the same state as I could, too.
I'll give you that. But it doesn't mean I didn't worry about you.
[even if she had been stretched so thin that she'd barely managed to check her phone for much beyond the sheer basics. nightmares and work had left her wrapped up so deep she hadn't been able to do much. but still, in her heart, in her thoughts - she had worried and wondered.
next time, she thinks, she has to do better than that.]
I was worried, too... but we both managed to not just pull through, but do our part to make sure everyone else was saved, too. Though I'd argue you did way more than I did.
[ A small laugh, rubbing at the back of her head. ]
You... really are amazing, Emily. In ways I don't even have words for.
[she chuckles, bowing her head. the compliment sits strangely on her shoulders. it's not like she was out there fighting the curses, saving the Enma. and if she hadn't had the others, the incense wouldn't have worked like it did.]
You're very kind to say so. I just was doing everything I could. I can't fight like other people can, facing things head on, but if I can at least ease their pain and support them from behind the front lines, why wouldn't I?
[still. to be told that's amazing...Musashi will probably note the hint of color in her cheeks. it was like that when she was told she was being promoted for it. modesty had dictated she be humble, but she had still felt some pride over it, in the end. and now, with her new goals...]
[ That little blush just made Musashi want to praise her more, to spoil her with those same kind words. And she certainly lacked any reason to hold back. ]
Exactly. The whole city owes you a debt. And on a personal level, I owe you a lot, too. Not just for my arm, but for all the times you've made my day better just by being a part of it. I've met a lot of amazing people in this town, but you are definitely one of a kind...
[you're too much, Musashi...the blush deepens, and she fiddles with her pen.]
One of a kind, huh...I'm touched that you think so.
[she's creeping towards tongue tied, if this keeps up. but still, she can manage!]
I don't want you to feel that you owe me, though. All that I've given you - the time we spent together, all of it, I've done so freely. There's no debt to be found.
[ Emily's blush just made Musashi's deepen, leaning across and over the desk just slightly. Okay, so now she was deliberately distracting Emily from finishing her work, but wasn't she allowed to be a bit selfish, from time to time? More often than that, even, given her indulgences.
She chuckled, reaching out to gently stroke Emily's cheek. ]
[she can probably feel the heat radiating off it, at this point, and Emily looks up to her, knowing she's not going to really get this work done, the longer Musashi stays. the question then becomes if she forces herself through it for review later or if she just says to hell with it and begs herself tomorrow to do better.
she can manage one semi-smart remark, though.]
Will your appreciation allow you to let me get my bag, before I call it a night?
[tomorrow, she'll be able to concentrate on the words before her. she's half distracted as it is, knowing the state of the clans. it's useless now.]
[ Emily was, at all times, gorgeous and smart and beautiful and fascinating... but in moments like this, she was also exceptionally cute. Musashi could hardly help herself, letting out a giggle as she tapped her fingers, pulling her hand back and easing herself into a stretch, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. ]
Sure! I'll wait as long as you want me to! That wine'll taste just as sweet, so long as I'm sharing it with you...
[she hurries, and it's apparent - pushing papers into a pile, putting things away, still trying to keep it neat and orderly even as she's hastening to get it all done. she can't look sloppy just because of a woman, or her coworkers will comment. hopefully Musashi enjoys watching what getting her flustered will yield for results.
finally she comes back from the staff room, bag over her arm, and she nods decisively.]
Okay, I'm ready. We can leave. [pause.] Did you know where you wanted to go?
[because if not....Emily knows a good spot to avoid the world in.]
[ She feels endlessly blessed, seemingly witnessing new and fascinating ways in which Emily can be cute every time. The woman was a well, and she'd not even managed to to breach the surface. Still, she at least tried not to look too lovestruck, and at least heard Emily's question.
But... ]
H-honestly, I didn't really have, like. A plan. This time. I was so ready to just come over here and see you, I didn't think further than that.
[ She'd needed a destressor. Emily did wonders for that. ]
Sure! That sounds perfect, even! [ Musashi takes up the wine bottle, making sure to grab a pair of glasses from where they were usually stashed before falling in behind Emily, more than happy to follow like a lovesick puppy. ]
[where she's taking Musashi isn't far at all - an office building, one where the locks never work and so she can walk in with her. usually she flies up, but when she's tired enough, she just takes the doors and the elevator. it's silent, but she's hit the button for the roof, and it carries them up swiftly enough.
up top...there's not much. the ground is empty, a few blocks of vents, but the important thing is the sky is wide, wide open. overhead, if they tilt their head and look, there are stars visible even with the light the city casts. and the wind blows, fresher than on the street.]
Up here, I can usually take to my wings, and fly as high as I have the energy for. I'll never reach the stars, but I can at least see them.
[ The inauspicious walk and elevator ride up to the roof hardly prepared Musashi for just how astounding the view was actually going to be... Sure, she'd seen similar sights at some of the exclusive Tamamo clubs around town, taking advantage of the way the light pollution from the neon sea below seemed to just cut off as a certain elevation, but...
Something about the blunt simplicity of the setting made the sky that much more impossible to ignore, to behold in all its heavenly glory... ]
Wow...
[ Just... wow. She wrapped an arm about Emily's shoulders, but otherwise just... couldn't really pull her gaze away from the sky. ]
[she speaks softly, looking upwards. it's a view she cherishes, she hopes never gets blocked by something, that she can keep seeing on the most wearisome nights.
and it's nice to know someone else appreciates it as well.]
[ The stars, and perhaps most importantly... the moonlight. It cast more than enough glow around them to see Emily, to turn to her and see the heavenly curtain reflected back in those gorgeous eyes. To feel herself drawn in... ]
The moon is beautiful, isn't it?
[ The oldest, cheesiest line she knew, but it was still filled with sincerity and adoration. ]
knock knock it's yer girl
Dressed fully in suit and tie, her badge shined up, like she'd just been in a meeting, but she has a bottle of plum wine in one hand and a few flowers in the other. ]
